BLESSING OF EDUCATORS SERVICE AND OPERATION BACKPACKS

The Celebration and Blessing of Pittsburgh Educators service for 2015 is scheduled for Sunday, August 30th at 10:30 a.m. More than 70 backpacks have already been purchased, so now the task of gathering school supplies to fill those backpacks is at hand. You can bring your donated school supplies to daily and Sunday services and place them in the marked box in the Parish hallway. You may also drop off your donations from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Cathedral offices.

We will collecting school supplies for the next 3 weeks. Items suggested by teachers include: pens, pencils, erasers. small pencil sharpeners, folders with inside pockets, 8 1/2 x 11 tablets, spiral notebooks, Crayola crayons, highlighter markers, , Elmer’s school glue and glue sticks, Kleenex, wide-rule loose leaf paper, book covers, pencil boxes, and zippered pouches.

Trinity Cathedral is once again blessed to host Mr.Jerry Bowyer as the Guest Homilist on Sunday, July 5th. Jerry is a successful entrepreneur and a renowned local radio host,  in addition to his service to his parish and the Episcopal Diocese.

The theme for his sermon is “A CIVIC SERMON: America’s First Principles”. The words will resonate with you not only on this Independence Day, but will also stay with you throughout the year. AA and Al-Anon Meetings at Trinity Cathedral

Trinity Cathedral is blessed to host meetings for Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Downtown Chapters every week. AA meetings are held at noon on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons; Al-Anon conducts its weekly meeting on Wednesday at 1:00pm.

Both organizations meet in the Undercroft conference room and classrooms, with street-level,  handicap-accessible entrance at Oliver Avenue. Should you need directions to Trinity Cathedral, simply search the interactive Calendar on this website for the meeting you wish to attend and click on the street map which accompanies the meting listing.

Downtown Road Closures for Sunday June 28th

The second of three OpenStreetsPGH event is coming this Sunday, June 28th. The OpenStreetsPGH event will occur from 8:00 a.m. – noon, shutting down multiple streets beginning in Market Square and continuing down Market Street and 6th Street to Penn Avenue. Penn Avenue will be closed from 6th Street to Butler Street in Lawrenceville where the closure will continue to 47th Street.

Please be aware of the road closures that will begin at 7:00 a.m. and reopen at 1:00 p.m.  Parked cars along the route will also need to be moved NO LATER than 3:00 a.m. on June 28. For a detailed map of road closures and soft openings, please visit: http://openstreetspgh.org/route/.

TRINITY CATHEDRAL WELCOMES DIOCESE OFFICES AND STAFF

As of Sunday, June 22, 2015, the Offices of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh have moved back to Trinity Cathedral!

Bishop Dorsey McConnell, and the Diocesan staff have moved into the newly renovated office space on the Third Floor of the Parish House. It is truly a blessing to Trinity Cathedral and to Downtown Pittsburgh to have the Diocese “back home” and on-site at the Cathedral. The move signifies a renewed and visible partnership with Trinity Cathedral and its mission to serve Pittsburgh and the Episcopal Diocese at large.

We encourage parishioners and visitors alike to join with us in issuing a warm and heartfelt “WELCOME HOME” and to pass along those wishes to Bishop McConnell and the Diocesan staff should you encounter them over the coming weeks.

BISHOP MC CONNELL AT TRINITY CATHEDRAL MAY 31ST

The Right Reverend Dorsey McConnell, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pittsburgh, will be our Celebrant and Homilist on Trinity Sunday, May 31st, at our 10:30am service. Trinity Cathedral is blessed to have Bishop McConnell with us to lead the celebration of our Patronal Feast Day. All are welcome and make plans to join us for fellowship and refreshments after the service.

WALK-IN MINISTRY WEEK 8/3-8/7

Trinity Cathedral is pleased to serve as the Walk-In Ministry Church for the Week of  August 3rd-August 7th, 2015

The Walk-In Ministry is part of the ecumenical partnership between five churches located in Downtown Pittsburgh. Trinity Cathedral will operate its special Outreach services from 10:00am to 12:00pm and from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on the days listed. The Walk-In Ministry is a front-line service to any and all who have need of it, offering 2-3 days worth of food, toiletries, and various articles of clothing we have in stock. Outreach volunteers can also offer referrals to other city and county agencies. A client list is maintained and all users of the system are asked to produce some form of photo ID.

Please keep our volunteers and clients in your prayers during this busy and fulfilling week!

TEAM TRINITY RAISES OVER $900 FOR OUTREACH MINISTRY

photo 2(1)                                                                                 KUDOS to Josie White, Priscilla Castner, and Claudia Caruso (aka Team Trinity) for their participation in and fundraising efforts for the Walk For A Healthy Community event on Saturday, May 16th

Team Trinity raised more than $900 for the Trinity Cathedral Food Pantry account with the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. These funds help the Outreach Ministry with their continuing efforts to assist the homeless, families, and seniors in our service community. The Walk For A Healthy Community is just one of the ways the Outreach Ministry secures funding, materials, and foodstuffs for their ministry.

Be sure to pass on your thank yous the next time you see Josie, Priscilla, and Claudia.

WALK FOR A HEALTHY COMMUNITY

There is still time to sponsor TEAM TRINITY FOR THE Walk For A Healthy Community event this Saturday, May 16. Trinity Cathedral Outreach volunteers will begin walking from Stage AE on the North Shore at 9:00 am to help raise awareness of and funds for the Trinity Cathedral Food Bank account  with the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank. Any funds raised go towards the purchase of foods and hygiene products for the pantry shelves; these foodstuffs are distributed to individuals, families, and seniors served by Trinity Cathedral within within the 15222 zip code service area.
